Every day we are surrounded by a sea of possibilities. I did not miss my chance! 2 years ago I entered Turiba University, Riga, Latvia, the Faculty of Tourism and hospitality management, and recently have won Erasmus Mundus scholarship on the student exchange program. I have one semester in Germany waiting for me ahead. All thanks to Turiba University!
Why I chose Turiba
By the way, my name Sherzod Alimov :)
I was always interested in the hotel business. Back in Tashkent, I worked at the hotel and improved English skills at the same time.
From school I have been imagining how I will study abroad, learn a lot of new things, get acquainted with different cultures. After graduating from high school, my dream became a reality. Of course, parents supported my decision regarding study abroad. I considered universities in many countries - in Poland, Spain, Germany and many others. In the end, I chose the University of Turiba in Riga, the capital of Latvia, because I thought it was the most promising.
After entering the university I started a new, on some level, independent life. First, it was difficult in the new environment and culture. But I was able to overcome all the difficulties and tried to become the best student.
All students at the University are very friendly and hard-working, so we quickly found a common language with them. In addition, we communicate daily in the hostel and it really have brought us together, we have become a real team, a family. I made friends with students from Spain, France, Germany, Ukraine and many other countries.
How I got Erasmus Mundus scholarship
The first year of studies went incredibly fast! It was time to apply in practice the knowledge they had accumulated during the academic year. I had 3 months in Spain, at a 4-star hotel waiting for me ahead. In the first week, it was insanely difficult to adapt to a new situation, a new job. But then, the experience became memorable for me! I learned a lot about the Spanish culture, about people, could practice Spanish with native speakers. Spanish fellows were very responsive, so I was quick on the draw in everything concerning my job. It was my first year at the University of Turiba. In October, I began to study again. I was lucky to win the Erasmus scholarship, which gave me a chance to study in another country. I chose a university in Germany. Now I'm looking forward to new experiences! During the whole semester I will study at the German university. Upon arrival, I will surely tell you about this experience too :)
I am very happy that my choice of the educational institution abroad is Turiba. I am sure that in such a dynamic and popular area as a tourist business, you can not find yourself, if you have not had the experience of travelling and working at the initial stages of the tourist and hotel industry. Thanks to cooperation with many companies and scholarship programs, study at Turiba is a big step to a successful future to me.
P.S.: To all those who have chosen a complicated, but promising way – Bachelor’s program in Europe, there are 3 humorous advice, from my experience, if you want to win Erasmus Mundus scholarship:
1. Tired of reading at a table, sit on the floor, but keep reading :)))
2. Put a goal, and do not forget about it, even when you want to sleep)))
3. Be friendly and positive with students and teachers, and one day they will be happy to give you a recommendation;)
